Suicide Prevention

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

If you or someone you know is suicidal or in distress, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, 1-800-273-TALK (8255). Trained crisis workers are available to talk 24/7. They can provide crisis counseling and mental health referrals.

Supplemental Security Income/Social Security Disability Insurance (SSI/SSDI) Assistance

SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery (SOAR)

This program provides SSI/SSDI application assistance to people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness or mental illness.

Veterans

National Call Center for Homeless Vets

Call the National Call Center for Homeless Vets, 1-877-4AID VET (877-424-3838), for free information about homeless prevention programs and mental health services.

Veterans Crisis Line

Call the Veterans Crisis Line, 1-800-273-8255, and press 1 to talk to a Department of Veterans Affairs responder, or send a text message to 838255. 

SAMHSA’s Permanent Supportive Housing Evidence-Based Practices KIT outlines components for supportive housing services and programs for people living with mental illness.

SAMHSA encourages its website users to search for articles, videos, and webinars on mental and substance use disorders and homelessness and to visit its store for free resources.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) offers numerous resources for people who are experiencing or are at risk for homelessness.

 

Resource Locator allows users to quickly connect with building managers and public housing authority representatives to inquire about housing and availability.

HUD-sponsored counseling agencies throughout the country offer free or low-cost advice on foreclosure prevention and housing.

DOL’s Employment and Training Helpline: 1-877-872-5627 provides information for job seekers, workers, and employers on employment and training.

 

Workforce Development Board Locator provides local job centers where job seekers can get employment information and find out about career development training opportunities near their location.

The American Job Center Finder provides local job centers that help job seekers find jobs and answer other employment related questions.

​Unemployment Benefits Finder provides information about filing for unemployment benefits in your state.
